Project - Overview

Research stages

1. Analysis of differences in the applicability of climate based distribution models between range types*

In this part of the work climate based distribution modelling has been used to test for differences in achievable model quality between types of ranges. Measures of the quality of models were linked to characteristics of ranges. Hence coherences and indicators were identified. An overview will give information about allocation of taxa to range types.

2. Analysis of the climatic structure of ranges / types of ranges*

In this part the spatial climatic structure of ranges / types of ranges was analysed. Spatial clusters of superior climatically homogeneous units were intersected with range areas. In this way, conclusions about climatic homogeneity and variance of range areas could be drawn. Furthermore, climatically appropriate but not populated neighbouring areas can be identified. Results may help to evaluate analysed and predicted areas in a more differentiating way.

*[For practical applications the defined types of ranges may allow for generalizations regarding applicability of climate based distribution models. A completed system containing as much species as possible may be the prerequisite for estimation of behavior of target species without individual analysis or detailed cartographic information about their ranges.] ( Types of ranges )
